Shola Ameobi eyes Afcon call-up

Nigeria's-Newcastle United Football Club player Shola Ameobi has said that he hoped his debut match for his country would earn him a shirt at the forthcoming African Cup of Nations scheduled to be hosted by South Africa next January.

The former England Under-21 said he was delighted to be a part of the Eagles that defeated Venezuela in a FIFA grade A friendly match played at the Marlins park, Miami, U.S.A.




The Super Eagles beat Venezuela 3-1, goals by Brown Ideye, Nosa Igiebor and Ogeyi Onazi for Eagles while Frank Feltscher gave the home tam a consolation.

"The dream of any professional footballer is to play at the highest level of the game. I'm really excited i was called by the FA and hope we could achieve something great together in future competitions,"

"I hope my debut for my country would earn me a call-up for African Cup of Nations in January" Ameobi told Oluwashina Okeleji in an interview.

The striker said that the dream of any player who plays professional football is to be featured at the highest level of game adding that he was excited to have earned a call-up by coach Keshi to the team being his very first ..
