
The Chairman of Shell companies in Nigeria, Mutiu Sunmonu has again reiterated the commitment of Shell Nigeria in promoting education through sports in the country.
He said this during the match that saw Government Secondary School Owerri, Imo State win the 2011 edition of the NNPC/SHELL all secondary schools football championship on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Sunmonu said the competition has produced talented players who have represented the country at different age-grade competitions both locally and internationally adding the current highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Premier League,Ajani Ibrahim os Sunshine Stars FC is also a product of the tournament.
"This competition has become a household tool for us in Shell Nigeria for promoting education in our society"
"It has since inception produced talented players who are doing well in and outside of the country at different levels,"Sunmonu said.
he added " The Sunshine Stars of Akure forward Ajani Ibrahim who is currently the highest goal scorer in the country's topflight is a product of NNPC/SHELL competition."
Government Secondary School,Owerri, Imo state defeated Brillian International Pre-varsity 1-0 on sunday to win the cup the second time.
They won the 2010 editionof the tournament when they defeated Mbagba-Nanev Community Secondary School, Adikpo, Benue State
